She was drawn to chaplaincy by the meaningful chance to accompany people through some of life\u2019s most significant transitions.<\/p>\n<p>With a calm, thoughtful presence, Laura works with individuals and families to create rituals that are not only personally meaningful but also uplifting and deeply connecting. We started working together in the fall of 2019. I work half-time and lead Sunday services twice a month. I meet with committees, leaders and staff, and am also available for pastoral support. Ministry is my second career, I worked as a professional actor and stage manager in Saskatoon (where I grew up). My family\u2019s background was in the United Church. After searching for a religious community as a young adult, I found my Unitarian spiritual home in Vancouver in 1992. Completing a Masters in Religious Studies at the University of British Columbia, I trained for the Unitarian Universalist ministry. Since 2002, I have served with congregations in Edmonton, Montreal, West Vancouver, Nanaimo, Comox Valley, as well as a 6-year settled ministry in Calgary. Presently, I also do a part-time community ministry using interactive theatre techniques. These workshops help individuals and communities explore underlying causes of social and organizational issues, then try out practical solutions. It was an amazing learning experience to be part of the leadership for five years with the Canadian Unitarian Council\u2019s Truth, Healing and Reconciliation Resource Team.
